As for the Oil Cooler from an '85 - you can take (unscrew) the longer
shaft from the '85 oil filter housing and replace the short (filter
thread) shaft on the '80. Then the VW oil cooler can be mounted. The only
problem is the coolant hoses - I believe you'll have to pull the plumbing
from a oil coller equiped 1.8. This could get a little complicated since
you have a 1.6 block (the coolant routing is a little different on the
head). Be best if you could have the two cars side by side - the diffs in
collant routing would become obvious.

I ran into a similar prob on my Golf GT - which has a new 1.8 shortblock
and uses a late model oil filter housing. I used the old oil cooler on
the new filter mount.
