Hello all,
I just wanted to give everyone some feedback on the latest two mod's
that I have completed on my 80 Scirocco S. The first was the
installation of the Techtonics Short Shift kit ($50). I can't say
that I'm overly impressed with this mod. I do notice the shorter
throws, but they don't seem like a 50% reduction (yes, I assembled
this correctly and at the 50% setting). I think more like an 80%
reduction would be more of what I'm looking for. Besides that, all
you receive for $50 is one piece of metal and a shifter linkage
bushing set (which I appreciated). I guess it's mostly that it wasn't
what I expected.
Oh well, this second mod more than made up for the disappointed in the
short shifter. As I said before I already had the larger throttle
body from an Audi 5000, but I hadn't port matched the intake manifold
to the TB. Well, I went out, purchased a kick ass tool ($6) for my
dremel and went to town (I think I have written about this
already...). I port matched the intake manifold for both the TB and
the head. Anyway, I finally reinstalled the intake manifold
(discovering a few holes in the boot that attaches to the tb), and
discovered that my engine's exhaust note had dropped an octave or two.
Once out on the road, I noticed a surprising difference in the power
and notice that the power band had changed a little. It seemed that
my horsepower and torque were decidedly up (by how much and can't tell
but I'd say at least 10HP/10lbft) as well as when this peak hp was
available seemed higher on the tach. I may be talking out of my ass,
but that's what my butt felt while sitting in the car. Needless to
say, I have a very big grin on my face and can't wait for the drive
home. My car has been on jack stands for about three weeks and it's
such a joy to have her on the road again (especially since she kicks
even more arse).
