only in europe-gearing q'

met a guy today from Germany, with a German '93 Passat
75 hp, yet he says he can do 150 all day long, it's all in the 
gearing. Of course it looses to everythign off the line but he went 
on to explain in europe they dont race light to light..but country to 
country on that autobahn,so performance is measured in top end.

Now, can someone explain to me how that little 8v 75hp engine
can do 150 because of gearing..and why cant we get that gearing?
