Head Shaving, cam timing, & coolant exit gasket

Hi,

I finally got my hands on an Audi 5000 throttle body and have gotten around
to removing the intake manifold to match ported it. When this was done, I
thought about how easy at this point to remove the head and get it shaved.

The convertible being an experimental car, I decided to to take a whole
.090" off. Cost was $55 ($40 for standard resurface and $15 for extra
milling .090") From what I've read, .040" = 1/2 point of compression, so
this will bring my stock 85 Golf motor's 8.5:1 comp. to close to 10:1 ?
Can anyone confirm? Also, I realize this will affect the cam timing. Can
someone advise on whether it's going to retard or advance the timing and by
how many degrees? I'd like to correct this by dialing in the adjustable
sprocket.

And, has anyone replaced the gasket for the coolant exit attachment on the
right side of the head? Is this the same gasket used for the top front
radiator hose attachment and the thermostat housing as well?

Lastly, I realize that the headbolts are stretchbolts and "should not be
reused". I've also heard that they might be reused once? Would I be
risking too much by reusing the bolts or is it advisable to shell up the
$5-10? a piece for them

Thanks!
