When this happened to the '83, I found the water pump weep hole to be the
source. If the system holds pressure, it might be worth checking. The water
pump will ooze a bit of coolant normally, but should not be actively dripping.

By the way - this weekend we finished my son's '75. He drove it to school
last night. Another restored VW on the road!
