I'm learning my lesson, so I can't say for sure. I'll just add to the
info for your decision. I just bought an 86 16v for $2300. Everything
works, Driver door, front fenders were replaced(obvious from paint job),
and it was in an accident(just look under the hood. If this were a
human mouth, an orthodontist would have a field day). It had relatively
new CV boots, half shafts, struts, low profile tires. It has an oil
leak in the front, I replaced that short fuel hose running from the tank
to the tranfer pump(almost an environmental disaster. Never trust a
Chilton book for anything other than the most simplest of procedures.),
needs rear brake pads, brake and power steering system flush, and rear
speakers. When I took it to my local import service center, the mech
said that if I didn't buy the car, he would. 107,924 is the mileage.
Certainly more pep than my 85 Golf(still running great), which I bought
new in 85 when I couldn't afford the Scirocco. It does seem that these
vehicles get dogged by earlier owners.

My $0.05(Inflation)
