You say you have a 1.6L.  are those high compression pistons 
oversized or 1.6L?  if you increase the stroke even more, you will 
definately have alot of torque but I think it will suffer at the top 
end. A 1.7L is just a 1.6L with a longer stroke so that is one 
possibility for you. and the 1.8L has the same stroke as a 1.7L but 
has a slightly larger journal diameter on the crank.
the hp for a 1.7L is actually less than a 1.6 but the torque goes WAY 
up so if thats what you want, go for it
