Another Unrelated Scirocco Posting So Erase It If You Don't Want To Read It

Hi All,

Weekend project is upon me and I'm in need of advice. I've ripped up
the carpet in my house and am attempting to install hardwood floors.
Apparently, the person who owned the house prior to me had FUGLY
linoleum installed under the carpet. While I was at the hardware store
getting some equipment, I asked a salesperson what this meant. I'd
heard there was a way to 'insulate' your floor so drafts won't get
through. The salesperson had no clue why the prior owner put linoleum
under the carpet and neither do I. I'm going to have to pull it up too
I suppose but I'm not sure if this is the "secret" fix to the insulation
problem.
Has anyone out there installed flooring before and if so, what's the
insulation secret. Yeah, I called a local installer in town but he
wouldn't get up off the info before a pricey estimate fee. Guess you
gotta make your money somehow. Anyhooo, any and all help would be
greatly appreciated.

And to think, I'm giving up an autocross weekend for this jazz. Maybe I
should join a flooring installer mailing list :).
