Where? I don't see this. I've used both sizes on the GTI, BFG R1s and
Yokohama A008RSII, and the 205s were *always* faster. In SCCA SoloII,
bigger is most always better (exception being rain - a narrower tire in
standing water resists hydroplaning better) - this is why Miata drivers
stuff 205/55-14s on their CS cars, the Neons use the 225/50-14 (wear issues
too) on 14x6" wheels, my car is significantly faster on 215/50-13s than
14s, any size, some of my competitors use 225/50-14 on the VW GTI wheels.
Solo is about handling, and no one is using the 185/60-14 and winning. My
215s are awesome, they most assuredly handle better (although this could
have something to do with gearing), but definetly faster than a 205/60 or
185/60 13 or 14. I've heard people say this before, and I am curious as to
what part of handling the 185/60-14 was better at. Never seen it printed,
but a few people do put it forth in tirs size discussions. Where did you
see this? Not a flame, I simply have tried most sizes possible on VWs in
13 and 14", and smaller has never been faster on a Solo course. This leads
me to belive, in conjunction with what the fastest VWs in the country are
using, that the 185 does not handle better. If they worked better, people
would use them, the monstrously wide/ridiculously short DSP wheel/tire
combos would not exist. Just curious!
