Simple.
Remove the little plastic cover thingie.
remove the 2 adjusting nuts that go to the cable. (resetting the tension is easy,
no problem right!)
remove the clip to one side of the rod/bolt thingie which is the pivot point of
the hand brake and push it through.
remove the handle and locking mechanism being carefully not to lose the innards.
(not much to it, it just makes reinstalling the handle easier without having to
reset the whole handle)
With a pair of adjustable pliars, tweek the 2 flanges together a bit. Before you
remove the rod/bolt thingie, you can feel/see the amount of play in the handle.
This will remove the play your complaining about.
Reinstall the whole thing and your set! Another happy E-brake user!
I just did this yesterday. I replaced my other bad brake cable and while I was at
it, make this fix. Must be more common than I expected.
