Now, why would the G grind people throw away their cams when the G grind
is .426" of lift right out of the box? Maybe you're speaking of duration?
A .310 would be, uhh, tame. Now, .450" lift, that's a cam. Supposedly,
anything over .450 needs to have the head clearanced. So I am told.

I hope you misunderstood him on the lift thing (I'd hang up quickly if
someone tried to sell me a "performance" cam with .280" lift.....)
