That might have been me.  I posted that solution somewhere.  After
attempting to get a replacement glass at a dealer and being told that they
only had the entire mirror as a unit (the car was not a VW) and quoting me
the price, I went to a glass shop with a cardboard template.  When I picked
it up the guy was nice enough to ask if I had any good adhesive for it,
and, the answer being "no", he gave me the the proper kind, some kind of
black goop, in paper cup and I was on my way.
