Rally is on ESPN and a question

Has anyone been watching the WRC Rally show on ESPN2?  It's really a
good show and I encourage everyone to watch.  Them's where the real
drivers is!  It's on at 6:30 eastern time all this week and a few show
will be next week too.  Check it!!!
Now to my question:
so I did my exhaust and the pre-heat on the back of the exhaust manifold
that goes to the airbox fell/distintigrated.  Now there is this tube on
the back that is metal and totally rusted.  It has broken off about 4"
out from the manifold and it is above the OX sensor and has a hex-head
on the bottom to be screwed into the manifold.  Does anyone know what
this does or where it goes?  Is it important?  Thanks a lot
