Well, I will tell you what I have done: about thirteen months ago I took
off my front bumper, washed it with Comet, and painted the cover. I used
DupliColor black primer (3-4 layers) and followed with DupliColor
BumperBlack (again, 2-3 layers). It looked very nice, but I was wondering
if it would last.
About a month ago I took off my rear bumper and did the same job. Then I
compared the newly painted bumper with the other one and they looked
identical. Moral of the story: with about $30 worth of spray materials
you can paint your front and rear bumper and have them look nice for at
least 1-2 years. Mine is still not faded at all. Kind of surprised me.
By the way, on the instruction of BumperBlack, it says to use ClearPrimer
as the undercoat. Since I had used black primer for my front bumper and
it worked well, I decided to do it to my rear bumper as well. I guess it
is possible to get better results by using ClearPrimer, since the
manufacturer recommends it. BumperBlack is flexible, by the way.
