If your 80 Scirocco didnt have an ox sensor to begin with, then it wont
have a wire to plug one into, right? (or am I reading this wrong.) Do
you have CIS?? Or is it a points system?

Not using an ox sensor on a non smog car will be fine. Unless you also
removed the EGR valve too. (Where is it on the non smog cars?
Now, if your car had a ox sensor and you simply unplugged it, your car
would run 100% rich, get crappy gas mileage, leave carbon deposits all
inside the engine/exhaust system and worst of all, have bad power. The
ox sensor on the cars that came with them are like little guys
constantly monitoring the exhayst temps and gasses comming out of the
engine. Its like hes constantly tweeking on the fuel mixture to keep it
running clean and at its peak efficiency.

So, to be smog legal, you either need the EGR valve, or the ox system.
Unless the case is you must have which ever smog system came with
whatever enginer you have. If this is the case, then you will need to
find and graph into your car the CIS system from any later Scirocco or
earler smog Scirocco. (and dont forget to get the distributor too.
<Cool, you'll get electronic ignition!).
