1988 Scirocco Recalls

Hi Folks,

I've known for a while now that 1988 Sciroccos had their
Fuel Tanks recalled but I never followed up on it to see
if my car had had the recall performed. Last week I 
discovered that my fuel tank in my 16v has developed a small 
leak so I checked into the recall. After getting my VIN, the 
dealer said my car wasn't covered (serial numbers didn't match
their recall or something).

So I've been recommended to change the fuel tank at my
cost! Grr.. Doesn't that suck! Did VW change their
design mid-year 1988 or something??? Should I double
check on this dealers claim. I guess my question
is, who with a 1988 Scirocco 16v has had the recall
performed on the fuel tank and is your serial
number after mine (WVWCB0531JK010939)
