Speedometer removal ?
It looks like I'm the latest victim of the infamous trip/odometer
disease. The trip/odo has been intermittent for about ten days now.
I've tried to observe a pattern to its working/non-working states,
but I can't seem to say much. It works most of the time in the mornings,
which may mean it's heat (expansion of the shaft that drives the gear wheel ?)
related.
I tried to follow the instructions on Jan's page for odometer
removal, but they seem to mostly apply to Jettas. (That page
details reomval of the radio, CC, etc. which I don't think applies
to us). I checked the Haynes manual which advises removal of
the steering wheel - nothing like this mentioned on Jan's page.
I removed the plastic fascia for the instrument panel and then
tried to reach behind to remove the speedo cable. I couldn't --
when I put things back, the speedo is dead too.
1. Could someone please post instructions on removal of the speedo ?
[Removal of the LH dash tray (under the fuse box) doesn't help
because you can't reach behind the speedo from there to disconnect
the cable].
2. Do you think the speedo is really dead or have I just disconnected
the speedo cable accidentally ?
3. Once the instrument console is removed, does it slip out between
the dash and the steering wheel, or does the wheel need to come
off ?
I don't have the Bentley, and the Haynes manual tries to address too
many cars at once..please help !
Thanks a ton !
