sway bars
I sit back and lurk for weeks at a time on this list, then I finally have
something pertinent to say and Manix goes and steals my thunder..... I
guess that means I'll have to beat him at the next autoX.
(as if I could... must go faster!)
anyway, I was going to comment on the hollow/solid sway-bar bit. I was doing
a lot of calling for sway bars which I needed badly. No way did I have the
budget for Neuspeed stuff. The only other maker I found the huge bars (BESIDES
autotech, I was not going to buy their junk) was Autobahn Designs. They claim
the bars as their own. The salesman tried to convince me to get the rear
hollow bar, as it "will save you 50#" I asked him 50#? , he confirmed. they
wanted around $350 for just the rear bar. the set (both) of solids were only
around $260. no way could I afford the hollow for that, plus cracking
potential. He checked and their rear hollow was illegal for DSP because of
triangulation anyway.
so yes, I weighed the box, and the bars plus all the packing material came out
around 36-38#s. so, if you get ABD rear hydrogen-filled sway bar, it will
take pounds off your car!!!
hmmmmm, hydrogen in the spare tyre.... hmmm...........
overall ABD was great and I love their solid sways, so they don't have fancy
ball links. big deal.
I also welded my own rear hollow bar. ( I chose hollow because I had a pipe
available.) after about 4-5 races with both rear sway bars on, the hollow one
cracked. hmmmm. ok, so I'm no professional yada yada, I fixed my hollow bar
with some reinforcements. we'll see if it can take the next 5 races.
