Well I can chime in on this one. (Pardon me for lurking) I use and sell
Amsoil products. Amsoil Synthetic lubricants are superior to any other
brand out there...they also charge a premium for their products (twice the
cost of M1 but ~the same as Redline Lubes). I can state from my experience
that Amsoil Synthetic 75W-90 Gear lube works well and improves
shifting...even in -30F (I live in Minnesota).
You can't go wrong with Redline or Amsoil (of course I know Amsoil is
"better") I suggest you avoid Mobil 1 ... I read at one time in the
watercooled FAQs that M1 may be problematic for VWs (no scientific data to
prove this). I can sell you Amsoil. Redline may be mail ordered from New
Dimmensions @ (408) 980-1691 (California #).
