If that is the piece that is adjusted in wheel alignments (making sure I'm
thinking of the right piece) and if you have power steering, I would
recommend leaving this one to VW.  I hate not doing things myself, 'cause I
wanna one day be able to do ANYTHING I want to my car, but according to the
Bentley manual, it looked like a pain in the high-knee.  Something about
totally disassembling the rack.  Maintenance was $100, which means 2 hours
for a skilled VW mechanic.  Eh.....

All this from the same guy who's putting a G60 engine in his scirocco....   ;-)
