Given that it was not wet and if you tensioned the belt properly when you
installed it, there's only supposed to be 1/2 inch deflection in the middle of
it's longest leg, (Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on the
deflection amount) then it's only 1 of 2 things. If your car is not
equipped with air conditioning, then only 2 other items of consequence are
being run by this belt: The alterator (obviously) and the water pump.
Unless you have a huge stereo and all your accessories where on I don't
think your alternator would have created a big enough drag to slip the belt.
That leaves the water pump. Could be the first indications of pending
impeller problems. The water pump is usually pretty dramatic when it goes. :-)

Given that I don't know anything else about your car or the conditions you
were driving in, this is the best guess that I can make. I could be
completely out in left field.

Can anybody tell that I don't have a whole lot to do at work today? :-)!!
