FYI-Front Strut Bearing Spacers
Hey,
Just in case anyone wanted to know:
I replaced my front strut inserts and front strut bearings about a month
ago. When I got in the car I expected fulfillment, including a better
ride and less the noise resulting from blown bearings. I got the better
ride, but still heard this anoying chatter when going over any type of
bump. While I was doing this replacement I noticed when tightening down
the top strut nut (which holds the springs and strut bearing in place)
that it bottomed out. I couldn't physically tighten the bolt anymore,
yet there was still some play in the bearing. Well, I asked around,
everyone said this was normal...except for one person. He said, "Oh
yeah, that is common, but to fix it just unscrew the top nut (while
still mounted to the car) and take out the spacer located around the
shaft inside the strut bearing. Take this out and shave it down about
1/16th of an inch." Well, guess what, it worked. No longer am I a
slave to unwanted chatter. If anyone has had this problem, I hope this
helps.
