The "A" is the designator for the 90 hp motor. --->8V<---
Now if it said "B" like the golfs say, its the 100 hp GTi 8V motor. the 16V 
would have the letter "C". You have what appears to be an 8V car with the 16V 
motor. Mighty nice of somebody to do the swap
