Remove Power Steering?

Regarding putting a G60 engine in my '87 Scirocco:
The EC article says this: "If you want to retain your A/C, you will need to
modify the lower core support to maker room for the compressor." Can I
remove my power steering and put the A/C compressor where the power steering
was? Is this as easy as it seems? I really don't like the power steering
except for parallel parking, which I do maybe 2x/year.
