I am building a 16v 1.8L engine for an 81 rabbit. So far I spent $300
for a rebuilt custom Garret TO4 turbocharger, $350 for a custom made
manifold by a racing machine shop, $120 for a set of stock 8v new
pistons that I will notch($50) the top part for valve clearance and
lower compression(8:1), and I estimate $200 for a used intercooler, $200
for exhaust work, $100 for tubing, $150 for greedy release valve, and
$700 for greedy proffec computer. That is not even close to $3k and has
better quality and parts than any of the kits available. So think about
it, and don't hesitate to do it yourself. On the other hand, a 2.2
stroker with cams, head job, big intake manifold, header, etc it is
close to 200hp or over.
