A good combo (IMHO) is the solid lifter 1.8l, stock CIS injection, large 
sensor plate, dual outlet exhuast manifold with good downpipe/exhaust, 
maybe the large t-body, and a G-cam. Good performance, very affordable 
combo. If you have a little extra, add some headwork and a 272 cam, maybe 
shave the head a few thousanths for some comp. in the 9.0 - 1 range. High 
octane will handle that fine.
