Yes, right around the time the Rabbit S was in production - the Rabbit S
was the first attempt at a US market GTI. It was essentially a cosmetics
package, but very similar to the Scirocco of the time.

Some great cars are designated by an "S" badge... 911 "S", S2/RS2,

Uhhh......grin, we're not comapring econoboxes to Porsches here, are we?
Just checking. Don't get me wrong - I like VWs a whole lot, but lets face
it - they are NOT sports cars. They're econoboxes which happen to be fun
to drive. I like my Rabbit GTI a lot - it is a great car, good grocery
getter, gets decent mileage, great in snow, and happens to be competitive
locally in SoloII. I personally don't see much difference between the
SciroccoI and Rabbit - but that is just me. Don't see much difference
between SciroccoIIs and Golfs, either. Different packaging, IMHO. I like
