Front Suspension

Help!

I installed H&R lowering springs on my car about a month ago, along with new
struts, upper bearings (those big rubber things on top of the strut), and a
few other minor front suspension pieces.  Now, one of the struts appears to
be failing.  I hear a loud knocking noise when I push down on the passenger
side front bumper (I don't think the driver's side is far behind).

The VW dealer told me that I wouldn't need any special struts with the
lowering springs; is this true?  I'm going to take the car over today and let
him see it; if, in fact, these springs are the culprit, I think Volkswagen
should install the correct struts for me.  I put the stock struts in on his
recommendation.

Any opinions?
