Oil pressure sender for gauge.

I'm trying to test a used oil pressure sender for a gauge that I just 
bought at a scrapyard.   Unfortuantly, I don't have a gauge yet.  Is 
is like a potentiometer (resistance rises as oil pressure rises?) or 
if not, how can I test it if it works?

If it gives a resistance, what range can I expect?
