A/C compressor

Do all VWs use the same A/C compressor?  The one I have (86 Scirocco 16V) is
in dire need to be replaced.  I'm going to a junk yard this weekend so I
would appreciate any help you all can give me.  Actually, I would love to
get rid of it all together but I'm not sure if it's possible knowing the way
it's set up.  I hope there is a way for this to be done.  Also, my engine
needs to be replaced pretty soon. Front crank seal has a leak.  Mounts are
worn out.I would love to get a 2.0L but I I know someone who's selling a
2.1L short block for US$1,000.  Everyone's opinion is welcomed.  Thanx in
advance.
