Battery ? What Battery ?

All this talk about stereo's reminds me of a funny story.

Back in 1987 I used to work in a VW dealership in Larchmont NY (County 
Automotive).  We used to get a lot of homeboys from the Bronx (da' Bronx) 
who liked to do a little custom stereo work on their cars.  One day we get 
in a maroon Jetta with the RO (repair order) stating that the car stalls at 
traffic lights.  Hmmm - OK, so we take the car out and drive it around, but 
it works fine.  We call the customer and tell him that we can't reproduce 
the problem, and ask him if he does anything else.... Well as it turns out, 
he told us that we should turn up the stereo and try it again.  Well, we put 
a Volt/Ohm/Amp meter on it, and when we turn on the stereo - the battery 
drops to 6v !!
We take a peek in the trunk, and he had walled off the entire hatch, with 
plywood and installed night club sized speakers.  When he had the rpms upp 
high enough, he could drive the system off the alternator, but when he came 
to a stop, the battery would croak.

We returned the car to the customer with no charge and told him to install a 
seperate power source for the stereo, or smaller speakers.
