I have the original showroom books for the 1988 Scirocco 16v and the
1988 GTI 16v.  Here's what VW had to say on times:

Scirocco 0 to 50:  5.9 seconds
GTI 0 to 50:       5.7 seconds

Note that those times are from 0 to 50 mph.  Common times I've seen/heard
quoted for the Scirocco 16v and the GTI 16v of that era are:

Scirocco 0 to 60:  8.0 seconds
GTI 0 to 60:       7.8 seconds

Please feel free to correct me if anyone thinks these last 2 are out of line.

BTW, I'll be scanning pictures from the showroom books for the Scirocco
web pages. Be on the lookout...
