Yes, welcome to the list!
What Shawn has said is exactly true, but I will say that you MUST
have the throttle body, distributor, and flywheel, and something evern more
important. Not only do you need the knock-sensing ignition module and the
knock sensor, but you will need the CIS-E brain, and wiring harness if you
choose to go with the CIS-E system. They all work together as a unit. I
have this system in my '84 GTi. I love it! The car really looks like a
heap, but I suprise many people everyday. The extra 15 ponies of the CIS-E
engine over the CIS are really good to have, esp. at top end. I appear to
have about the same or slightly better torque over the CIS I had originally.
On the cost, if you look around, you could find this whole system
for about $5-600. I lucked out myself, and got it well below that. 8-)
But, if I were you, I would go with the CIS-E. Extra trouble, but more
