the "third" front speaker

I am planning on putting some ICE in my car and was curious if any of 
the other mk1 scirocco owners have bothered to replace the middle 
front speaker.  That is a speaker grate, right?  Is that speaker 
hard to get to?  What size is it?  I know I could just look in the 
Bently but I am far from my bently right now.
