Re: Scirocco II euro lamp conversion
<< It is a good idea to change the turn signals at the same time.>>
Yes, I gots thems too. Very nice.
<< My lamps did not come with instructions or connectors to interface with
the driving lamps or the inside super bright driving lamps. I just removed
the fast-on's from the plastic connector housing and pluped them on. >>
They're not really driving lamps, although some catalogs will claim that.
The outer bigger ones are Lo/Hi's, and the inner ones are just Hi's. You
connected them properly.
<<In addition to the standard main lamp switch I
have the VW lower right side dash mounted lamp switch and the three bulb
assembly. In Europe (France has yellow bulbs) they drive in the city using
only the small bulb in the big lamp off to the side. They run the parking
lights with it. My car does not have the Euro wire assembly. Can someone
tell me the proper way to wire the assembly to the switch. Should I add a
relay to the assembly. Can I get the fast-on connectors for the switch so
the small bulb will indicate the lamp is on?...?>>
My scirocco is totally apart right now (the front of it). I am putting in
90w/130w outer bulbs, 130w hi bulbs, 100w hella 550 driving lamps, and the
city light conversion that you described just above. I'm waiting on a few
more relays, but I'm done w/ the city lights. I wired them like this: Using
a relay. Get a 5-prong relay, and connect the following way:
to terminal 30 (power from the battery): splice it into the parking light +
wire
to ground: obviously, ground it.
to the triggering switch: splice it into your low beam + wire
to relay output (terminal 87a): to + city lights
and nothing on term. 87.
This will produce the following effect: When you put on parking lamps
(dusk/city driving), your cities will come on. When you give it that second
click, for headlights, the cities go off.
Now, my question: How much does a small fire extinguisher cost? With
90/130w bulbs here and there, I'm a little scared.
<< I do have a tip for a low cost rear tail lamp foglight. For those who do
not know the rear fog lamp is used extensively in Europe. It is an extra
bright tail lamp for inclement weather. The lamp is the red space located
between the tail and break lights in the stock rear tail lamp assemble.
The stock bulb housing assembly is wired for it on the US cars however the
lamp assembly has no hole for the bulb. If you drill out the back side of
the cups left and right (note it will say USA on it) and install a break
light bulb in the bulb slot, you will have the left side fog lamp and a
right side lamp.>>
Most of the people on this list did it a few months ago. I just got to it
yesterday and it looks great.
Merry Xmas
