When I had my bushings replaced I had 1st and 2nd disappear too.  Took the
mechanic about half an hour to get everything back in place.  When it was
done I found my shifter to be very stiff.  After about two weeks it is easy
to shift again, but doesn't have that loose feeling anymore.
