The '88 16v is a very nice car. There really aren't any big problems to
look out for except the usual. $2500 actually sounds a little steep but I
guess it's because it's an 88. I would offer $2000. The shift is very
simple to fix. All it needs it new linkage bushings which are a snap to put
in. The muffler might be a problem to replace alone but I'm sure you can
find some way to do it. You could just get a Dynomax and have someone make
you hangers and a tailpipe. Other then that if the car looks nice and there
are not leaks it should be great. Actually I would check the downpipe and
ask if it has been replaced because they brake about this time in my
experience and I would check for trans fluid leaks around the axles. The
final drive seals on these sometimes go bad and are a pain to replace.
