Ideas for seat lowering

Has anybody ever successfully lowered the driver's seat in a Scirocco I?  I
need more clearance between me and the steering wheel and plan to A) get a
longer spacer to move the Momo closer to my chest and B) either lower the
stock seat (preferably without having to remove foam from the lower cushion)
or replace it with a thinner semi-racing seat.
